"By the Sea" - Bayberry Quilters of Cape Cod Quilt Show 2019

Yesterday, I attended "By the Sea" the 38th Annual Quilt Show of the Bayberry Quilters of Cape Cod at the Resort and Conference Center of Hyannis with my friend Edith. It was a wonderful show! What a talented group of quilters the Bayberry Quilters are.

The info on each card attached to a quilt provided the maker's name but not much more than that. I would have been interested in knowing the source/pattern for some pieces. With that said, here are a few of the quilts which caught my eye. Be sure to click on any image for a larger view.

Peggie's Bretz's Perseverance was hand quilted and an absolute stunner.

Mary Ann Karpinski's hand quilted Tree of Love was a gorgeous use of color.

Just look at the exquisite machine quilting done by maker, Gail Butler, on this quilt Circled by Swirls, Curls, and Squares.

It was difficult to get a good photo of Round Cape Cod by Tere D'Amato as there was always a cluster of folks up close studying all of the elements in this delightful wool applique. According to the card, the maker adapted a Wendy William's pattern to showcase all of the things that she loves about Cape Cod.

Here is Spring Solstice by Rada Elegant. This photo does not do justice to the colors in this piece. It sparkled with crystals.

I spotted this sign hanging in the Hingham Lobster Pound on 3A. I looked up Hurley's and read that you were able to rent a two piece wool bathing suit for five cents. :-)


And finally, let's all tip our ranger hats to dedicated, hard working Smokey the Bear on this his 75th birthday and  . . .  "Remember: only you can prevent wildfires."  Those words for the last seven years have been voiced by actor Sam Eliott. Here's a fun fact; they share a common birth date . . . August 9, 1944. Wow!

Boothbay Harbor - Quilty Getaway (Part1)

Last Tuesday at this time, I was driving north to Boothbay Harbor, ME,  with two friends for a 'quilty' getaway. We wanted to go to the Maine Quilts Show 2018  in Augusta on Thursday so we headed up north a few days earlier.  I posed with hard working, dedicated, Smokey the Bear at the highway Information Center.

Our first quilt stop was at Cotton Weeds Quilt Shop in Freeport, ME. If you are ever in Freeport, be sure to stop and visit this lovely shop.  It turned out to be our favorite shop on this trip. I purchased a few fat quarters, a pattern, and yardage for a table runner.

Boothbay Harbor is just an hour from Augusta, so that is where we stayed at one of my very favorite getaway places,  Brown's Wharf Inn. Here's Laurel and Edith with Captain Brown.

Brown's Wharf is a three story motel with fabulous water views from every room; that is if the fog doesn't come rolling in. :-)

After dinner, we drove over to Southport to photograph the two lighthouses. Here's Hendrick Head Light which is no longer operational and privately owned but easily seen from the beach.

Well, this is easily seen usually; this is all we saw of the lighthouse, so we headed back to Brown's. By the way, don't you just love the little red sandals in the foreground . . . serendipity!
