Here is my May block for the Crazy Quilt Journal Project 2016 . You may read more about this project, here.
If you click on this photo for a larger image, you will see that there are seven ladies on the rungs of the ladder and a gentleman in the very top right corner. He is almost obscured by the branches and leaves. My grandmother, who would have been twenty-three when this was taken in 1906 in Winthrop, Maine, is the third lady from the top. It makes me smile to think that folks took fun photos like this back at those days. By 1900, Kodak had fully embraced mass-market photography and consumers could choose between folding cameras and early versions of the brownie camera.
I'm glad I have my grandmother's album with its glimpses of those simpler times. In my next post, I'll talk about how I went from photos to fabric images for my crazy quilt project.
