Purple

A friend gave me a pot of crocuses for Christmas which came into bloom on Saturday during a blizzard which left ten to twelve inches of light, fluffy snow. It just so happens that all of my violets which are presently blooming are in shades of purple.

For fun, I played with this image with it's cluttered background in the Moku Hanga app on my iPad. Moku Hanga is the traditional Japanese method of wood-block printing. With this app, you can transform any of your photos to suggest this art form.

Here are two examples of how the app works.

Moku Hanga App

The other day as I was taking a photo of the kitchen in the Whistler House Museum of Art in Lowell, I wondered what it would look like rendered in the Moku Hanga app. I love how this looks, and it is so very easy. The Moku Hanga app for iPad or iPhone costs $2.99. You open any of your photos in the app and then play with the various effects. The effect above is Fluid Detail which creates a lovely painterly effect. You can also go for a more subtle effect with the Landscape choices.

or try something like the Thin Line Low Contrast selection.

These photo renderings took only moments to do and there is absolutely no learning curve . . . just click on the various buttons. Not all photos will turn out well, but after a while you can predict which one might work.

Finally, today there is total jubilation in Patriots Nation for Tom Brady has been vindicated by federal judge Richard M. Berman in the Deflategate matter. What a relief!!! Go Pats!!!

A Hint of Fall

After parking my car to attend a quilt guild meeting yesterday morning, I grabbed my iPhone to quickly capture this hint of the season to come.

Here's one final image using the Moku Hanga app on my iPad.  Besides selecting different borders and intensifying colors, you are able to change the width of the subject's edges.  You may also select from different "styles" to change your original image as I did with this yellow daylily photo.

I had intended to spend today quilting, but it was just too lovely to be indoors. Speaking of quilting, be sure to mark your calendars for the Herring Run Quilters' Guild, Inc. 2014 Quilt Show: "With These Hands: Celebrating Silver." The show will take place September 20th from 10 AM - 5PM and September 21st from 10 AM - 3 PM at the Norwell Middle School, Rt. 123, Norwell, MA. There will be 150 beautiful quilts on display to delight the eye.
